Red-breasted Nuthatch Eating Seeds
I saw this Red-breasted Nuthatch in mid-February at Elgin Heritage Park, South Surrey, BC, Canada.
I thought it was a Chickadee until I got home and looked more closely at it.
If I had only realized then what I was seeing, I would have stayed much longer.
The Nuthatch eats seeds in the winter months, then switches to fruit. It has a longer beak than the Chickadee, a larger body, and likes to move down backwards head first. I've only seen this bird once before and hope to see it again soon!
