Female Bufflehead Diving for Aquatic Plants

This female Bufflehead spent about two hours diving for Aquatic plants in a small pond at Elgin Heritage Park in BC mid February, 2017.

It was the only bird in the pond and spent its time scouring what seemed like every inch there was beneath the surface.

When it finally flew off it was sudden. No transition at all from diving and eating to flying away. It just surfaced and flew off. Just like that.

Lots of fun while it lasted though!
